“I’ve said I really don’t believe that that’s something I will do again.”
Hillary Clinton to Baba Wawa, when asked about running for Prez in 2016.
Back when I was a freshman at Wellesley, and Hillary was a junior, students there were already talking about her as the first woman president. I was 16, and what did I know, but I had never met someone who was just such pure ambition, who seemed to want power for the sake of power, rather than for trying to accomplish something policy-wise. Many years have passed, but I don’t believe that such consuming ambition just burns itself out without trying again and again for the goal.
Wow?! You went to the same school as her?!
Yes, and then I transferred to Yale in my junior year when they went co-ed, so I was there when she was at Yale Law School with Bill. I knew Howard Dean at Yale. No one thought he would run for president!
I actually found Hillary pretty scary, not someone I would vote for for any office. I haven’t changed my mind…
Gotcha. I’m going to email you with a question, then. Thanks!
OK, wait.
You were a freshman at Wellesly at SIXTEEN? Hilary should have been looking at you as the first woman president!!!
Hillary didn’t look at me at all. Juniors didn’t pay much attention to freshmen.
But you were still clearly a star….I’d vote for you if you ran!
Well, thank you. Hillary hung out with people like Eleanor Acheson, Dean Acheson’s granddaughter. I was the granddaughter of an immigrant baker and a first-generation American upholsterer. She hung out with the pearls/cashmere sweaters/framed-debutante-clippings crowd. I was scholarship/work/loans.
