That Time of Year

This morning, for the first time all season, I clicked on “Expanded Standings” at the Yankees web site to see where they are in the Wild Card race.  I don’t see it happening for them to win the AL East, where they are now six games back.  But only one game in the Wild Card.  Actually, I don’t see it happening there either, and if it did, how long would these Yanks last in the playoffs?

You can say that last night’s game, a 4-3 loss in the 12th against the Tigers, was a great effort, especially since David Price was Detroit’s starter.  But great efforts don’t count, only W’s and L’s, and it was another L.

In Case You Were Wondering…

Watching the Yankees lose to the Tigers today, 8-3, thus losing 3 of their first 4 games, I was trying to remember when they last had a losing season.  That would be 1992, when they were 76 and 86.

2013 is feeling 1992ish to me already.

How Low Can Yanks Go?

Tyler Kepner at the NYT thinks the Yanks will finish at the bottom of the A L East — he predicts Rays, Orioles (wild card), Blue Jays, Red Sox, Yankees.

He also predicts that the Nationals will beat the Tigers in the WS, with Stephen Strasburg and Justin Verlander winning the Cy Young awards.

 

Girardi, Like Obama, Looks for Game Changer

Wow!  Girardi has both A-Rod and Swisher out of the line-up tonight.

Gardner is batting leadoff and playing left, with Ichiro moving to right.  Chavez is at third.

I hope both the Yankees and Obama do what they have to do tonight.

I’m not sure if I’m more worried about Verlander or Mitt.

I am kind of bouncing off the walls, “going mental” like the Ed Grimley character (Martin Short) on SNL.

Jorge Posada Goes Out Like a Champion

While the Yankees were fighting for another trip to the ALCS in Game 5 against the Tigers, Jorge Posada was fighting for his career.  He knew a loss wouldn’t just be a season ender, it would be a career ender, at least with the Yankees.

Posada batted .500 in the ALDS, showing Yankee fans one last time the bat and heart of a champion.

Quick Yankees Note

Just wanted to point out that Jorge Posada, who is considered washed-up and done, is playing much better than A-Rod in the ALDS.  Jorge may be heading out, but he will head out with his head high, like the Yankee great that he is.  A-Rod is in choke mode.
