Eric Cantor is blaming Nancy Pelosi for the failure of the farm bill (with the food stamp cuts) to pass. Um, Eric, you’re the majority leader, and she’s the minority leader. Your party runs the place.
GOP evil genius Frank Luntz spoke to a student group at the University of Pennsylvania. He offered some fluff, making jokes about Nancy Pelosi and face lifts. When asked about political polarization, he became more serious and replied he had something to say, but not on the record. So the student reporter from the college newspaper turned off his recording device. But another student started to record on his iPhone with Luntz, who I guess never heard about Mitt’s 47% video, unaware. Luntz, feeling a little too comfortable and confident, then blithely went off on right-wing talk radio:
“And they get great ratings, and they drive the message, and it’s really problematic. … And so that is a lot of what’s driving it. If you take — Marco Rubio’s getting his ass kicked. … He’s getting destroyed. By Mark Levin, by Rush Limbaugh, and a few others. He’s trying to find a legitimate, long-term effective solution to immigration that isn’t the traditional Republican approach, and talk radio is killing him.”
And now talk radio will kill Luntz.

Upset that his opponent agreed to only one debate, former GOP South Carolina Gov. and current congressional candidate Mark Sanford today debated a poster of Nancy Pelosi.
After he loses, maybe he’ll have a poster of John Boehner swear him in to his imaginary House seat.
The GOP rightly ridiculed Nancy Pelosi for saying of Obamacare that we need to pass the bill, so we can find out what’s in it. Americans don’t respond well to condescension and paternalism.
But now the GOP wants us to vote for Mitt Romney, who is essentially running as the proverbial pig in a poke. He wants us to elect him, so we can find out what’s in him.
Check out Stephen Hayes’ interview with Mitt, “The candidate attempts to reassure conservatives,” in The Weekly Standard:
“Mitt Romney wants to eliminate government programs and shutter cabinet agencies.
“But Romney, ever cautious, is reluctant to get specific about the programs he would like to kill.
“‘So I think it’s important for me to point out that I anticipate that there will be departments and agencies that will either be eliminated or combined with other agencies. … So will there be some that get eliminated or combined? The answer is yes, but I’m not going to give you a list right now.’
“Romney’s answer goes a long way to explain why some conservatives have been reluctant to embrace his candidacy. They want a list. They want it to be long, they want it to be detailed, and they want a candidate who is not only willing to provide one but eager to campaign on it.”
So basically they want a different candidate. Which is what all of us, not just conservatives, deserve.
Newt has previously responded to Mitt’s attacks by calling them baloney: “This is such baloney. It used to be pious baloney. Now it’s just desperate baloney. He’ll be able to open a delicatessen.”
And according to Newt today, Nancy Pelosi can be Mitt’s partner in that deli. Pelosi told CNN that she’s sure Newt will never be president because “There’s something I know.”
Newt replied, “I think if she knows something, she ought to say it, and if she doesn’t know something, she ought to quit saying it. But this is baloney.” Emphasis added.
Some weeks ago, Nancy Pelosi brought up the House ethics investigation against Newt, the one that led to a $300,000 fine and his leaving Congress, and Newt threatened that if she disclosed anything that led to the ethics committee vote of 7 to 1 against him, she would commit an ethical violation herself.
Now the Romney campaign is raising it. Mitt surrogate John Sununu fired this volley today, asking Newt to get all his ethics records out now:
“[T]here still is a very important piece of opaque material out there … and that’s the record of what is in the ethics process…. And if Pelosi knows, Obama knows, and if Obama knows, this is certainly a ripe package for an October surprise. And we ought to at least wring out the laundry now. He ought to ask for the release of the complete records of the ethics process and get that out in public….” Emphasis added.
Of course, Newtie is not about to do that, any more than he’s about to re-marry Mrs. Newtie #1 or Mrs. Newtie #2. Mitt just wants to plant that seed in South Carolina voters’ minds, making them wonder what Pelosi has on Newt that Obama would dump at a moment of his choosing.
