Some of the right wing is going nuts over a multi-lingual version of AmericatheBeautiful in Coke’s Super Bowl ad. I guess they don’t get the whole melting pot thing.
In addition to the non-English lyrics, the folks are Breitbart are outraged that the ad showed a gay family. Newflash for Breitbart and all wingnuts: Katharine Lee Bates, who wrote AmericatheBeautiful, was a lesbian.
The biggest Super Bowl ad outrage was that poor MSNBC staffer who got fired for tweeting about the Cheerios ad that “maybe” the right wing would hate the ad because it featured a bi-racial family. Losing your job for telling the truth?
The NationalEnquirer (yeah, I know, but often they’re right, remember John Edwards) claims that Hillary Clinton will disclose that she is bisexual in her $25 million memoir expected to be published in 2014.
The idea is to put it out there herself, ahead of 2016. There have been rumors about her sexuality throughout the Clintons’ public life. I always believed them because she hung out with lesbians at Wellesley. If you weren’t one, you weren’t welcome in their inner circle.
Voting for a female president is a big deal for a lot of Americans. It’s a leap we’ve never made before. I just don’t know if adding bisexuality to that mix makes it too big a leap, if we can have our first woman and first openly gay president simultaneously.
Crazy Congressman Allen West of Florida lost to Patrick Murphy.
Ignorant Congressman Joe Walsh of Illinois, who opposed a “life of the mother” exception to an abortion ban because he said women’s lives are never threatened by pregnancy, lost to Iraq War vet Tammy Duckworth, who lost both her legs while serving as a helicopter pilot there.
And Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin will become the first openly gay member of the U. S. Senate, having defeated Tommy Thompson. I was thinking of you, Butters, when I wrote “openly.”
