Quote of the Day

“It is my belief, shared by many lawyers who have followed the legal battles over Guantanamo, that the president could have shut the prison down if he had really been determined to do so.  One reason the prisoners can’t get out is that the courts have essentially ruled that a president has an absolute right to imprison anyone he wants during a time of war — with no second-guessing from either of the other two branches of government.  by the same legal logic, a president can free any prisoner in a time of war.  Had the president taken that stance, there would undoubetdly have been a court fight.  but so what?  Aren’t some things worth fighting for?”

When Fascism Comes to America…

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”  Sinclair Lewis.

“And it will be named Newt Gingrich.”  Embattled Farmers.

From the L. A. Times*:

“Newt Gingrich says as president he would ignore Supreme Court decisions that conflicted with his powers as commander in chief, and he would press for impeaching judges or even abolishing certain courts if he disagreed with their rulings.

“As an example, he cited the court’s 5-4 decision in 2008 that prisoners held by the U. S. at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, had a right to challenge their detention before a judge.

“Gingrich also said that as president he might ignore a Supreme Court ruling it it held gays and lesbians had the right to marry.”

The irony here is that Gingrich has been warning that our grandchildren will live “in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists [I know that makes no sense, I’m just quoting] and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.”  Gingrich himself threatens to take away that understanding.

One thing you have to say for that Kenyan Muslim Socialist in the White House — he respects our courts and Constitution.

The hypocritical, adulterous, zany lobbyist has now become a very scary hypocritical, adulterous, zany lobbyist.

Run, GOP primary voters, run screaming.
