Nate Silver Returns to His Roots

Our favorite election prognosticator, Nate Silver, is moving his FiveThirtyEight brand from the NYT to ESPN.  During election years, he’ll work for ABC.  Nate was a baseball statistician before he went into election analysis.

Nate is expected to be a regular on Keith Olbermann’s new show, which starts in late August.  Keith has been told that besides sports, he can talk about pop culture and current events on his show, but not politics.  Not sure how you talk about current events without talking about politics, not sure how you stop Keith from talking about politics, so his show may not be around very long.  But I will enjoy it while I can…

Newt Blames, Blasts Fox News

From “Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting,” Scott Conroy, Real Clear Politics:

“During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted Fox News Channel, accusing the cable network of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight.  An employee himself of the news outlet as recently as last year, he also cited former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“‘I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,’ Gingrich said…. ‘In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year.  We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox.  That’s just a fact.’

“Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch…of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“‘I assume it’s because Murdoch as some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney.’ …  ‘And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.’

“He saved his strongest condemnation for syndicated columnist and ABC television commentator George Will….

“Gingrich said that Will was among the conservative media figures who harbored ‘personal jealousy’ against him.”

So we know Newtie won’t be working at Fox again.  If Newt wants to assign blame, he needs to stop looking at the TV and look in the mirror.

Newt: It’s All Media’s and Obama’s Fault

I really can’t stand any more of Newt’s false outrage and indignation.  Nothing is his fault, it’s the media’s fault, it’s even Obama‘s fault.  Here is part of Newt’s response at tonight’s debate to being asked about Mrs. Newtie #2’s appearance on Nightline tonight to talk about his affair with Mrs. Newtie #3:

“I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that. … I am frankly astounded that CNN would take trash like that and use it to open a presidential debate. … I am tired of the elite media protecting Barack Obama by attacking Republicans.”

For someone of such delicate sensibilities, why isn’t he appalled and astounded by his own narcissistic and reprehensible behavior?

What I don’t get is how this horrible man got three women to marry him.  I wouldn’t have been interested in a second date.

Hell Hath No Fury

That giant sucking sound you hear is the wind leaving Newt’s sails.

Mrs. Newtie #2, Marianne Gingrich, spent two hours being interviewed by Brian Ross from ABC News.  I don’t think they were talking about what a great guy Newt is.

Matt Drudge, who has been carrying water for Mitt this cycle,  is reporting her “explosive revelations” will “rock the campaign.”

But maybe not before the South Carolina primary on Saturday.   ABC is pulling its punches, and has tentatively decided to air the piece on Monday.

Apparently there’s a fight going on at ABC, and someone obviously leaked to Drudge.
