Don’t Let the Door Hit You in the Tush

New Jersey’s king of conflicts of interest, David Samson, has resigned his job as Chris Christie’s corrupt Chairman of the Port Authority.

Bridgegate has brought to light numerous instances where clients of Samson’s law firm got huge contracts from the Port Authority, and Mr. Samson in turn got huge legal fees.  As rocks started getting turned over, sleazy Sampson tried to recuse himself from a vote favoring one of his clients two years after the fact.

I’m glad he’s finally gone, but he needs not just to leave the Port Authority, he needs to go to jail.

More Stupid from The Donald

Donald Trump is now coming out against childhood vaccinations, joining the parade of morons who think vaccinations cause autism.  At least his birtherism didn’t really hurt anybody.

While vaccinations don’t cause autism, parents’ growing failure to get their children immunized is definitely causing outbreaks of whooping cough and measles, diseases which shouldn’t even exist in this country.

All part of the terrifying turn against science in favor of superstition and quackery.

Why Are We Going Backwards?

Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, but IUDs have been widely used in this country for contraception since the late 1950’s.  If IUDs cause abortions, they would have been illegal prior to Roe.

Why is Hobby Lobby even allowed to argue in court that IUDs cause abortions?  Why are we going backwards?

Hobby Lobby’s Legal Claim Is Based on Lies

Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby does not require any legal determination about the religious rights of for-profit corporations.

This case can, and should, be decided on the facts, which are that the birth control methods Hobby Lobby objects to (Plan B, Ella and IUD’s) are contraceptives, not abortifacients.

The religious right, willfully in my view, continues to confuse Plan B with RU-486, which is an abortifacient and is not covered under Obamacare.

This is just another infuriating example of religious nuts refusing to accept non-controversial medical and scientific facts and trying to impose their ignorant views on the rest of us.

Listening to Hobby Lobby’s lawyers and the conservative justices today, I was reminded of Galileo and the Catholic Church or the Scopes trial.

It’s going to take more than the re-make of Cosmos to turn this country around.

Business Insider, Refuge of the Disgraced and Discarded

Former NYC congressman and mayoral candidate Anthony “I’m not sure if that was my weiner” Weiner has joined Business Insider as a political columnist.  The disgraced Weiner joins the disgraced Henry Blodgett, who has been banned from the securities industry for life.

But Weiner, unfortunately, hasn’t been banned from politics, and if you don’t think he still lusts after being mayor of New York, note that his new column is called Weiner!, just like the Broadway musical was called Fiorello!
