Derek Jeter has announced that this will be his last season playing major league baseball. From his statement:
“And the thing is, I could not be more sure. I know it in my heart. The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball.”
Jeter will turn 40 this June.
This Red Sox fan is going to try very hard to be at Jeter’s last game, which will be at Fenway. I used his name in my classroom the other day to talk about “admiration”, to say that you can admire someone even when he plays for the “other” team. Talked about why it is important to have admiration for someone who is respectful, kind and by all accounts a good person.
Baseball won’t ever be the same!
It’s appropriate that Jeter’s last game will be at Fenway, assuming he can make it through the season.
I think you picked the perfect example to share with your Sox-loving class.
