John Adams comparing Boston and Philadelphia:
“Phyladelphia, with all its trade and wealth and regularity, is not Boston. The morals of our people are much better; their manners are more polite and agreeable… Our language is better, our taste is better, our persons are handsomer; our spirit is greater, our laws are wiser, our religion is better, our education is better. We exceed them in every thing, but in a market.”
Yuengling is better than Sam Adams.
This was John Adams. He wouldn’t be happy at being confused with Sam.
Then that is now an intentional aspect of my regional putdown;)
I grew up in Boston, and I went to law school in Philly and got married there. I have no interest in putting either city down, I just liked the quote.
It’s meant in good fun. I have seen nothing but the short end of Philly/Boston sports rivalries my whole life. I wasn’t around to see the Broad Street Bullies beat up the Bruins, or old enough to remember Dr. J beating the Celtics, but I distinctly remember the Patriots edging out the Eagles in the Superbowl.
Cheesesteaks and lager are my only contemporary rebuttals for Mr. Adams.
I know, good fun meant on this end too.
