Well, that didn’t go well.
Secretary of State wannabe Susan Rice had a private, hour-long meeting with Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), a moderate, that left Collins complaining that Rice had played a “political role” in her five Sunday talk show appearances about Benghazi in the midst of the presidential election.
Collins also called Benghazi an “eerie echo” of the 1998 Al Qaeda bombings of our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, when Rice was Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.
We don’t need the Empty Barn Jacket back in the Senate. But, Mr. President, there are plenty of excellent choices for State besides Rice and John Kerry.
Offer the country an accurate, coherent explanation for Benghazi before investigations do it for you, choose someone else for State, and get on with your second term.
You make a lot of sense.
Thanks! Watching Rice on Fox News Sunday (the one of the five I saw live), I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I didn’t need access to classified info to know what she was saying was absurd and insulting our collective intelligence.
The nomination of a candidate for Secretary of State to replace Hillary should be placed on the back burner for the time being.
Hillary can be implored by Obama to serve for another six months and give this Benghazi mishegas a chance to die down. For your gentile blog followers, mishegas means “insanity”, for that is clearly what this has become. The sore losers will bite the flesh off of anything to sour the second term of a presidency that could be one of the best in American history.
If Hillary does this for the President, it will be remembered fondly by the powers that may make her president in 2016. (If she wants it)
Susan Rice I’m afraid is the scapegoat here and you can’t unshoot the bullit through her head.
Obama has vociferously defended this woman who is actually faultless in this saga and she should ask no more of him nor should he give any more to her. Politics has its casualties.
Even if Obama muscled her nomination through with a democratically controlled senate, her name has been tainted and the taint will follow her wherever she goes around the world in the name of America and vindictive Republicans like McCain, Graham and Ayotte, rather than standing by America’s Secretary of State, will diminish her stature in any way they can even at the cost to America.
She’s been a good soldier and perhaps a judicial appointment to a Federal Appeals Court towards the end of Obama’s presidency would be a suitable recompense for her allegiance.
Kerry needs to stay put as well to keep the Senate in democatic hands; the “empty barn coat” is lurking.
And President Obama, you must quickly explain EVERYTHING there possibly was to know and when it was known about the tragic Benghazi story. This needs to be done with immediacy and on a prime time address to the nation. It will not go away because you know who won’t let it go away.
But it’s not just about sore losers, the Obama Administration gave the GOP ammunition on this, and they haven’t moved to clean up their mess.
That’s why I say Obama must step up immediately and assure the American people he was not having Rice act politically for him. He has a degree of arrogance about this issue which I think shows his naïveté about how serious this has become.
Exactly!
