Mississippi’s Only Abortion Clinic Stays Open for Now

The federal district court judge dealing with the new Mississippi law that would close that state’s only abortion clinic has granted a partial preliminary injunction (replacing the temporary restraining order) that will keep the clinic open.

The judge ruled that while the new law can go into effect, there can be no criminal or civil action against the clinic as long as they are trying to comply with the law, which requires doctors performing abortions at the clinic to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.  So far, requests for such privileges have been denied, as those in the GOP who pushed for the law knew they would be.  Of course, in an emergency, a woman needing hospitalization would be taken to the nearest hospital, and doctors there would attend to her, so the whole admitting privileges thing is just BS.
