Quote of the Day

“President Barack Obama’s campaign is threatened most by events he can’t control:  a European financial catastrophe, an Israeli attack on Iran that could goose gas prices, economic stagnation.

“Mitt Romney’s campaign is threatened most by the man himself.”

Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei and Jake Sherman, “Fear factors:  What worries Romney backers,” Politico

The GOP is going to regret nominating this Mormon version of a cigar store Indian.

  1. EF (don’t know what else to call you), I agree with you. In your opinion, who was the strongest Republican who either did run or could have run?

    • I think Tim Pawlenty would have done better in the general. He can relate to normal people.
I also think Mike Huckabee, who chose not to run, but has a great sense of humor, lots of genuine warmth, a compelling self-made story, and lots of good ideas about health care and education.

      • Gotcha. Thanks for sharing those.

Reminds me of a conversation I had about five or six months ago with another middle class nobody. And I was telling him — as we discussed Romney — that I just don’t think the super rich can relate. They don’t get us, they can’t even tell a funny joke, they just seem uptight and awkward.

Obama has an edge in that regard since he came up poorer. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out, adn while I don’t know Pawlenty very well, Huckabee would have played much stronger in the South. That’s a fact.
