Rush Reassures

Rush Limbaugh says we don’t have to worry that President Obama will be impeached.

Not because he doesn’t deserve to be, but because “the American people are not going to tolerate the first black president being removed from office.”

Yes, Rush, we loves us those Kenyan Muslim Socialists.

Quote of the Day

“We’re watching the end of right-wing conservative talk radio.  The genre is dying among ratings and dying among advertisers … Rush is at the end of his career. His constituency is all wearing Depends. And he’s getting himself into trouble he doesn’t need.

“Sandra Fluke was simply the lightning that struck and hit an old building that collapsed.  She didn’t do it. She helped to bring it down at the end, but it was falling apart on its own.”

Jerry Del Colliano, publisher of Inside Music Media, which focuses on radio.

Evidence? We Don’t Need No Stinking Evidence.

From “Grand Old Planet,” Paul Krugman, NYT:

“What was [Sen. Marco] Rubio’s complaint about science teaching? That it might undermine children’s faith in what their parents told them to believe. And right there you have the modern G.O.P.’s attitude, not just toward biology, but toward everything: If evidence seems to contradict faith, suppress the evidence.

“The most obvious example other than evolution is man-made climate change. As the evidence for a warming planet becomes ever stronger — and ever scarier — the G.O.P. has buried deeper into denial, into assertions that the whole thing is a hoax concocted by a vast conspiracy of scientists. And this denial has been accompanied by frantic efforts to silence and punish anyone reporting the inconvenient facts.

“But the same phenomenon is visible in many other fields. The most recent demonstration came in the matter of election polls. Coming into the recent election, state-level polling clearly pointed to an Obama victory — yet more or less the whole Republican Party refused to acknowledge this reality. Instead, pundits and politicians alike fiercely denied the numbers and personally attacked anyone pointing out the obvious; the demonizing of The Times’s Nate Silver, in particular, was remarkable to behold.

“What accounts for this pattern of denial? Earlier this year, the science writer Chris Mooney published ‘The Republican Brain,’ which was not, as you might think, a partisan screed. It was, instead, a survey of the now-extensive research linking political views to personality types. As Mr. Mooney showed, modern American conservatism is highly correlated with authoritarian inclinations — and authoritarians are strongly inclined to reject any evidence contradicting their prior beliefs. Today’s Republicans cocoon themselves in an alternate reality defined by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, and only on rare occasions — like on election night — encounter any hint that what they believe might not be true.

“And, no, it’s not symmetric. Liberals, being human, often give in to wishful thinking — but not in the same systematic, all-encompassing way.”  Emphasis added.

After the election, Charles Krauthammer said the GOP’s problem was a lack of “delicacy” in their communications.  But it’s really an abundance of delusion in their thinking.

A Race Ending in Racism

As we approach the finish line, the racism gets more overt.  In his latest Washington Post column, George Will begins by calling President Obama, “Energetic in body but indolent in mind.”

You know, black people sure can run and jump, but they’re lazy and not all that smart.

He and Peggy Noonan in her WSJ column have been pushing this garbage about the President being in over his head, not up to the job.  In their sick hatred of Obama, they’ve sunk to the pathetic and pathological level of Rush and Sean.

And if white people are such geniuses, how do they explain Bush 43?  Given his obsession with working out and his well-documented lack of intellectual curiosity, we might describe the previous president as “Energetic in body but indolent in mind.”

Quote of the Day

“She kept feeding Obama lines. She did, folks, she kept feeding him lines. She kept prompting him. You Democrats, he couldn’t have done this last night without her assistance.

“She committed an act of journalistic terror or malpractice last night. If there were any journalist standards, what she did last night would have been the equivalent of blowing up her career like a suicide bomber.”

Rush Limbaugh on Candy Crowley and the debate.

How much longer is Rush’s journalistic terror going to continue?

A Golden Opportunity

What I see as a campaign-ending disaster — the Romney 47% video — Rush Limbaugh is calling a “golden opportunity” to explain conservatism!  I think you only see this as a golden opportunity if you’re someone used to eating off golden plates.

The GOP consistently tries to portray Obama as somehow unAmerican.

But really what could possibly be more unAmerican — and patently untrue — than someone who believes half his fellow citizens see themselves as victims and refuse to take personal responsibility for themselves?  That is the antithesis of who we have always been as a people and who we are today.

You could only think such a thing if you’re totally cut off from normal working people — as are both Mitt and Rush in where and how they live — and exist in a bubble of fellow extremely rich people.

This is indeed a golden opportunity, a golden opportunity to re-elect President Obama in a landslide.

The Silent Treatment

Mitt is responding to conservatives’ outcry over his spokesperson Andrea Saul’s touting of Romneycare with total silence.  No explanation whether it was a mistake or was purposeful.  I guess it’s hard to say whether or not Saul was off-message when the Romney campaign really doesn’t seem to have a message these days, other than he’s white and he’s not Obama.

Rush Limbaugh called Saul’s comments a “potential gold mine” for Obama.

Ann Coulter on Hannity said that no one should donate money to Mitt until Saul is fired.  It was fun watching Sean trying to hush her — she who will not be hushed.

It’s never good when your campaign is at a complete loss for words, cowed into silence by your own side.

How Low Can They Go?

Mitt surrogate and former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu said today, “I wish the president would learn how to be an American.”

I wish John Sununu would learn how to be a decent human being.

As they keep sinking to new lows, folks like Rush “Obama hates this country” Limbaugh and Sununu are going to find themselves in China.

Waaaaay Over the Line

Here’s Rush Limbaugh today:

“I think it can now be said, without equivocation — without equivocation — that this man [President Obama] hates this country.  He is trying — Barack Obama is trying — to dismantle, brick by brick, the American dream.

“There’s no other way to put this.  There’s no other way to explain this.

“He was indoctrinated as a child.  His father was a communist.  His mother was a leftist. … This is what we have as a president:  A radical ideologue, a ruthless politician who despises the country and the way it was founded and the way in which it became great.

“He hates it.”
